Why Church? Part 2
Author: Pastor Kalen Brown
The Church (people not a building!) is God’s idea! He is the architect and He determined in His own mind the idea and goal for His Church. It is also understood that God has the pattern and blueprint for the Church and He builds it according to His divine plan. God has throughout history had man build temples and tabernacles according to His specific plans. The result was a powerful outpouring of His glorifying presence. If we expect God to fill the Church with all His fullness and His glory, as He did in the Tabernacle of Moses, then we must understand that He is concerned about the design and so should we.
Jesus is the builder of the Church as stated in Matthew 16:18; “and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it”. Jesus has a desire, a mission, and a calling to build the Church. It is a beautiful thing that God has called us to be co-laborers with Him. He has called us to be partners in the greatest mission ever! But we must remember unless the Lord builds the house we labor in vain!
Jesus is the owner of the Church. We belong to Him. We were bought with a price and what a precious price that was since He purchased it with His own blood! He designed it, He built it, and He purchased it! He calls the Church by His name, the Church of Christ (Rom 16:16) and the Church of God (1 Cor 1:2).
The Church corporately is a dwelling place of the Spirit of God; “And in him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit” Eph 2:22. God adds us to the Church and we get to experience His dwelling when we are functioning as active members of His body. We must be participants in it! The Church is an organism that has not only structure but life! That life is full and abundant because of Jesus Christ the Son of the “Living God!” We too, as members added to the body, are made up of those that have had a spiritual experience and possess spiritual life!
What a privilege it is to be added by God to His Church where we experience His presence, His glory, and life! So let us fully give ourselves to partnering with Jesus as He builds His Church!
